Summer Days

During the craziness of wedding season it is nice to take a moment to reflect on some of my favourite parts of summer and to appreciate the small moments. Here are a few that I thought I’d share with you!

1. Lakeside walks with my love.

2. Unexpected moments that lead to funny stories. For example, experiencing a Mayfly hatch. While outside. With no protection.

3. Fields of my favourite flowers!

4.Dock days with silly towels.

Hope you’re all enjoying your summer!

My Weekends at Home

It’s been awhile since I’ve gotten personal on the blog. SO I’m going to take a moment to discuss my upcoming weekend at my parents place…

How I imagine my visit:
My lovely little pups will come out to greet me in the yard. Ruff, the big one, will sit nicely and accept a small head pat. Bridgette, the little one, will lay in the yard sweetly awaiting her turn for cuddles. They are just oh-so sweet!

What really happens: Ruff immediately plops down ready to use me for a free tummy rub and Bridgette comes running at full speed and gives me a full, and may I mention unwanted, puppy kiss.

How I imagine my visit:
My sisters will be so excited to have me plan yet another photo shoot with them. Hours of fun quality time! We’ll get gorgeous images that they’ll proudly display all over their social media.

What really happens:
Nichole spends the photo session making funny faces and Katie just hides.

How I imagine my visit:
Hours spent with the most amazing family!! Lots of yummy BBQ, fun sparklers, stories shared around a bonfire, lots of laughter and new memories to cherish with my favourite people in the whole world!

Winter Hikes

In my dream world, I’d live in the middle of the woods. Lead a simple life surrounded by the beauty of nature (important to note that man-eating predators do not exist in my dream world). In reality, I live in the bustling city of Toronto surrounded by concrete. But when possible, I try to escape the hustle of the city and immerse myself for a day or two in Northern Ontario.

My Love and I did just that this past weekend! We strapped on some snowshoes and hiked through the trees. We walked, we fell, we talked, we laughed, we rejuvenated our souls. It was simply the best weekend!

Craigslist Love Story

I’ve promised you a blog full of love stories, and although this first love story isn’t of a romantic nature, it’s a love story that has irrevocably impacted my life.

I fell in love with photography many years ago. I began exploring the amazing diversity this industry has to offer. I dabbled a bit in nature photography, architectural photography, pretty much all types of photography but it was when I eventually began photographing couples-in-love that my heart swooned. That was it! I decided after that very first shoot that I wanted to dip my toes into the wedding industry.

My first step was to find a mentor! How to do this in a very competitive, yet isolated, industry? My answer was Craigslist! I searched day and night, sent out a lot of emails, trying to find a position as a second shooter, or assistant, or, heck, even a gopher! I got some responses but none of them felt right. I knew in my heart that if I was going to do this, then I was going to do it right! I wanted to work with someone who loved love as much as I do. Someone who would laugh (or at least not frown in confusion) at my bad jokes. But, most importantly, someone who would inspire me to be better photographer & business person!

When I received an email from Gillian (owner of soundlikeyellowphotography) it was like a breath of fresh air. Finally someone who seemed like fun in an email! I responded immediately! I was so excited! ….and then I never heard back. For almost two whole weeks! I was heartbroken. So being the annoying tenacious person that I can be, I sent her a few charming emails trying to touch base. Turns out she was just busy moving back to the big city and had put a temporary hold on her employee hunt. And just like that, I was back on track to achieving my dream of one day working in the wedding industry!

The next year of my life can be classified as a whirlwind. I don’t think I’ve ever learned so much in such a short time period! Gill brought me along to engagement shoots, events, weddings, fashion shoots and even included me in totally profesh business meetings hosted over warm cups of green tea.  It was pretty much the most inspiring year of my life.

I love the wedding industry. I love the loving clients. I love Craigslist for helping me get a start in this industry. Most importantly, I love that I got to start this journey with the always fabulous soundslikeyellowphotography.

And that, my friends, is my Craigslist Love story.

Why, hello there!

Welcome to my first-ever blog post! There are a few things you should know before we begin this journey together. First, I’m a little bit cheesy, a little bit romantic, and have read one too many romantic fiction novels. Second, I believe in gut-wrenching, heart-pounding, forever&always kind of love. Finally, my jokes-they’re bad. Enough said. If you don’t appreciate these traits, you should probably stop reading now, but if you’re one of those rare individuals  who do enjoy these quirks, then we’re destined to be bffs! Hope you enjoy this photographic journey of the most amazing love stories, inspiring people and a little peek into some of my adventures!
