Today on the blog, we are tackling some frequently asked questions about maternity portraits.
When is the best time in my pregnancy to schedule a maternity session?
Somewhere between 28-34 weeks is the best time for most moms to be. Your beautiful belly should be a nice size at this point, but you won’t be experiencing any of the final discomfort that is typical in the last few weeks of pregnancy.
How soon should I schedule my session?
It’s never too early to book your session! I recommend booking 4-6 weeks out. If you want a weekend booking it is important to book early, as weekend availability is limited (these spots book up fast!).
What should I wear for my maternity session?
I have created an entire Pinterest Board featuring great wardrobe options. Check it out HERE.
Are maternity photos taken at a studio, at my home, or in a natural setting?
It’s up to you! During our consultation we’ll chat about the type of location you envision for the shoot. All of these locations offer a unique look and my clients choose the location they feel most comfortable.
What should I bring to my session?
Ideally, you’ll bring two outfits. I also recommend bringing any sentimental baby items. Some of my clients have brought a hand knitted blanket that grandma made, an old book from their childhood, or a teddy bear purchased special for their baby.
How do I prepare for the session?
- I recommend not wearing any tight clothing two hours prior to the session to prevent marks on your skin
- Ensure your nails are well groomed
- Style your hair and make-up prior to the session. For an additional fee, professional hair and make up stylists are available to help pamper you on the day of your session
- Try on your outfits one week prior to your shoot to ensure everything fits well
Can I include family in the session?
Yes, you are welcome to bring your partner and children to the maternity session.
